Description

Photograph of a view of an automobile race at the Beverly Hills Race Track, [s.d.]. The wooden track is at center and twelve early racecars can be seen. The cars are open topped and have open wheels. The drivers are wearing leather helmets and goggles. The grandstand on the side of the racetrack at center is packed with spectators. The infield can be seen in the foreground at right and is muddy with small weeds growing in some places.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
