Description
Photograph of a view of Avalon on Santa Catalina Island taken from a hill above the city, ca.1894. The crescent-shaped bay is at right, and a steam ship is making its way into the harbor and spewing out a considerable amount of black smoke. The city is along the shore at left and is composed mostly of small buildings surrounded by short trees. There is a large building with a conical roof at center, and several buildings are built on the hillside in the foreground. There is a wooden pier extending into the water at center.
