Description
Photograph of a stage coach used by the Butterfield Stage company between Los Angeles and Saint Louis, ca.1858. The coach itself sports a cabin with four windows on each side, two small and two large with the larger windows supplied with what appear to be canvas flaps, spoked wheels, a carriage driver's seat which extends from the back, and a luggage shelf beneath it, on which rests a steamer trunk. The carriage is unhitched. A 22-day fare on the coach in 1858 cost ninety dollars.
