Description
Photograph of horse-drawn wagons transporting large rugs along dirt roads, [s.d.]. At center, a wooden horse-drawn wagon can be seen moving into the background to the right. At the center of the wagon, piles of large rugs, pillows, and mattresses can be seen bundled together. At the front of the wagon, a shirtless man with a beard can be seen holding a whip in his hand. To his right, a large saddled horse can be seen connected by cords to a similar wagon in the background. Along the base of the wagon, a large wooden wheel can be seen trudging through a large section of dirt and mud. In the extreme background at left, trees can be seen near a small road. Three individuals can be seen standing in the background at center, while another men can be seen near a column to the far right. Photo sleeve reads: "Japanese, Chinese, Korean".

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
