Description

Photograph of an exterior view of the Illinois-Pacific Glass Company, ca.1930. In the foreground, the railroad tracks run over dirt on the right and into a paved street that leads to the left. A freight car sits on the tracks to the left. A building with a brick façade stands in the center while a truck seems to be parked at a loading door on the left side of the face. The façade of the building extends up in graduated steps that meet at a summit plateau in the center. The building that extends out of the façade has an angled roof with windows open along the uppermost side.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
