Photograph of herd of goats running along crowd of spectators, showing oriental building in background, [s.d.]. In the background at left, a group of large goats can be seen running along a road from left to right. To the right, a man holding objects in his hands can be seen stepping to the side as goats run by him. Behind the line of goats, a large crowd of spectators can be seen watching the animals. Many of the men can be seen wearing coats and hats. Many of the women can be seen wearing long dresses. Behind the large crowd, an oriental-styled building with a wide awning can be seen. Columns support the awning at its base, and many people can be seen sitting on benches within the building. To the far right, an additional building is visible beside trees. Photo sleeve reads: "Japanese, Chinese, Korean".

Description The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
