Description

Photograph of the Mulholland Dam, July 19, 1926. A darkly-colored automobile sits at the entrance of a road which winds from the trees in the foreground, around the top of the dam and to the hills in the background. The lightly-colored dam bows out towards the smooth, shimmering water on the right. The back side resembles a steep staircase which is lined on both sides by tall, dusty hills.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
