Description

Photograph of Pacoima Dam from a cliff above, January 4, 1927. A dark figure can be seen in the foreground with a jagged cliff wall of the dam below it. The dam's top is visible at center. It reaches to the opposite rock wall. A metal tower stands behind the dam on the left with wires and metal pieces crossing around it. The dark water can be seen at the bottom of the canyon on the far right.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
