At center, more automobiles can be seen parked in front of a building that reads "Pacific Air Transport. Air Mail". Farther left, a second sign reads "See Los Angeles from the air". Two planes can be seen in the field at right.; Writing at the bottom of the image reads: "Altitude 200 feet. 600x2400 feet. 2400 foot runway. Level. Weeds. Adobe soil slippery in rainy weather. Wind SW. Telephone, oil, gas, water, etc. Regular northern air mail terminal making night flights on schedule. Power lines in close vicinity (4 sides). Baldwin Hills to south. Ryan lessee".

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
