Photograph of painting of group of unidentified buildings, showing a large mission in the background, [s.d.]. In the extreme foreground at left, part of a grassy knoll can be seen. In the background at center, a group of two residential homes can be seen with three automobiles parked on the side of the street. Further to the right, at least three other homes can be seen surrounded by palm trees. In the background at center, what appears to be a circular track is visible. In the extreme background at left, a large structure resembling a mission can be seen. The structure consists of a large rectangular body with a pitched roof flanked by two rectangular bell towers. To the right of the structure, additional large buildings are visible along the hillside. Beyond the buildings, groups of mountain ranges can be seen.

Description The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
