Photograph of large skyscrapers, showing sign for Hope Street in foreground, [s.d.]. In the foreground, a metal railing can be seen extending from left to right. To the left along the railing, a large lamppost is visible. Attached to the lamppost, a small sign reads "Hope Street" with an arrow pointing to the right. In the background at center, large skyscrapers can be seen rising above a large rectangular building. Three cylindrically-shaped towers of the Bonaventure Hotel can be seen near center with what appears to be elevators running between the structures. To the right, a large rectangular skyscraper is also visible. To the far right near the bottom of the image, a street lined with automobiles can be seen.

Description The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
