Description
Photograph of the Chosen Hotel, Keijo (Seoul), Korea, [s.d.]. The hotel is regal in appearance as it stands three stories tall with fine automobiles parked on the left side. The base of the building is lined with short bushes and trees and the roof comes to a point where a flag waves. What appears to be a pagoda can be seen at right, standing next to the main building.; "At 2:30pm on September 6, 1945, U.S. Army Capt. George Stengel of Liaison Team No. 9 and Colonel Y. Noguchi, the Japanese officer in charge of the three POW camps in Korea, met there to arrange for the release of 680 Allied prisoners of war. Approximately two weeks later, all of the prisoners were successfully repatriated, and within a few years, Noguchi was tried at the Tokyo War Crimes Tribunal, found guilty, and hanged for his maltreatment of those prisoners" -- Bill Streifer, the USC Digital Libraries patron.
