Description
Photograph of the Dollar Steamship Lines terminal at Berth 155 in the Port of Los Angeles, August 12, 1937. A large, three-story building can be seen at center with three cars parked in front in the lot at left. An American flag can be seen flying from the roof of the building, while the building reads, "Port of Los Angeles. Berth [...]. Dollar Steamship Lines". A road can be seen from the left foreground into the right background. A criss-cross of lines can be seen above the road. The harbor is visible to the left of the building, while other buildings are visible across the harbor in the left background.; "Showing a modern passenger and freight terminal at Berth 155, Los Angeles Harbor. An automatic gantry, overhead passenger ramp admits passengers directly from the upper deck of the boats to a mezzanine corridor, where they may leave the shed by means of an overhead passage without conflicting with cargo moving operations."

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
