Description

Photograph of an aerial view of Long Beach, [s.d.]. A long bridge can be seen on the far right reaching from the rippling water in the foreground to the city at center. People crowd the water's edge in the center portion of the island. A roller coaster stands as part of an amusement park on the right while the rest of the cityscape is occupied by large buildings. One exception is a small patch of large, rounded trees in the background on the left. Caption reads "An airplane view of Long Beach which once changed hands for $152 in delinquent taxes".

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
