Description
Photograph of the 8th street looking north-west, Los Angeles, CA, ca.1920. Multiple automobiles can be seen parked or driving on a paved road which runs from the foreground towards the background. A one-story building with "Fountain Service Restaurant Soda" painted on its wall is visible at left, while a twelve-story building can be seen behind it. The tall building has an outdoor fire escape and arches on the first story. Similar tall buildings are visible at right, while "Great Republic Life" can be seen on a vertical sign on one of the buildings. Pedestrians can be seen throughout.

California Historical Society Collection, 1860-1960
Description
The California Historical Society Collection is incomparable for the documentary picture it provides of the growth of Southern California, particularly the development of the Los Angeles region, between 1860 and 1960. The collection contains more than 25,000 photographs. The full archive was placed on long-term deposit at USC in 1990 and includes the Title Insurance and Trust Company Collection, also known as TICOR, and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection.
