Description
Photograph of an exterior view of "The Central" a shop on the corner of Spring Street and Fifth Street in Los Angeles, ca.1898. The one-story shop front advertises "La Rosa Española Figaro Cigars" at a cost of 5¢ and boasts something else "Imported and Domestic". A horse-drawn carriage is parked along the sidewalk to the left, while a group of men stand talking outside the shopfront. The H. Raphael & Co. high rise building is visible in the background. Utility poles line the sidewalk. The streets are apparently unpaved.
