Photograph of of an exterior view of the Gaujome Ranch house, home of Mr. and Mrs. Cave Johnson Couts, 1870-1880. The adobe house is at right and its front porch faces to the left. The walls of the adobe have been covered with wooden boards. The covered porch is decorated with small plants. The roof of the main part of the house is covered with terracotta tiles, and a large second-story room sticks out of the roof in the background at center. There is a large rectangular window at right, partially hidden from view by a thin tree. A ladder is visible in front of a bush at left.; This photograph shows the home of Mr. & Mrs. Cave Johnson Couts, ca.1875. Itwas built in 1851 and 1853. It is of adobe but was weather boarded on the outside in later years. This view is of the front of the house, little seen room was added in later years. A big orange orchard faced both house just west of ladder.

California Historical Society Collection, 1860-1960
Description
The California Historical Society Collection is incomparable for the documentary picture it provides of the growth of Southern California, particularly the development of the Los Angeles region, between 1860 and 1960. The collection contains more than 25,000 photographs. The full archive was placed on long-term deposit at USC in 1990 and includes the Title Insurance and Trust Company Collection, also known as TICOR, and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection.
