Description

Photograph of a night view down Broadway, Los Angeles, [s.d.]. Lamps line both sides of the street, which runs from the center foreground to the background. Cable-car tracks can be seen in the road, while lights are visible strung in trees on the side of the road. Automobiles are visible parked on the right side of the street, and tall buildings line the road. Visible signs, some of which are lit up, include: "United Artists", "Texaco", "Majestic", "The Nay Co.", "Platt Music Co.", "L.L. Burns Bldg. 910 S. Broadway", "Western Costume", "Radio Supply 912-14 So. B[?]", and "Southern California [?] Dependable Service Gas".

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
