Description

Photograph of palm trees in rocky terrain, [s.d.]. The two palm trees stand at center with short, fanning leaves which shade over the grass-like cover which grows down over their trunks. Short, dry brush and boulders stand below the tall, thin tree which reaches over the foreground from the right. The small strip of forestry is shaded while a smooth rock wall shimmers in the sunlight in the background on the left.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
