Description
Photograph of a birdseye view of Los Angeles from the intersection of First Street and Spring Street, 1953. A large number of light-colored buildings can be seen from the foreground into the distance. In the foreground at right, the impressive Los Angeles Times Building is visible. A large parking lot can be seen in the foreground at left. Broad, paved streets are visible, and many cars and pedestrians can be seen on the roads. A low line of hills can be seen in the background at right. Also In view are the Nibblers Restaurant, Security First National Bank, Eagleson's, Sam Cook, Fidelity Building, Rowan Buidling, and the Biltmore Hotel.

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
