Description
Photograph of a view of the Placer mine at Big Bar, Trinity County, showing a man with mining apparatus, 1900-1910. A man stands at center, surrounded by rock debris and bounded on either side by large-diameter metal pipes which run from the lower left and right corners, respectively, diagonally toward the center. The pipe on the right has a joint from which another metal pipe protrudes, perpendicular to the first. This pipe is slightly smaller, and extends upward and to the left at an angle; its sides are riveted, and it is braced by a wooden structure consisting of an arm with a box at the end that contains rocks. The man's hand holds a lever which is attached to a nozzle-like feature at the left end of this smaller pipe. Trees are visible in the background.
