Title Chamber of Commerce "tally-ho" float for the La Fiesta Parade, Los Angeles, ca.1902
Description Photograph of the Chamber of Commerce "tally-ho" float for the La Fiesta Parade, Los Angeles, ca.1902. The large coach holds four rows of women holding parasols in lightly-colored dresses, with an extra similarly-dressed woman sitting in front with the coachman, who wears a nightcap and brandishes a gray handlebar moustache. The coach is decorated with tiny flower buds on its sides and wheels, and has made out the initials of "C of C" on the side. The card affixed to the float reads "Class Number C1". A clapboard-sided house is visible in the background.; Picture file card reads: "The great President Roosevelt was here.", and "L.A. Times Sunday 5-5-1901: 'Events of Society / One of the handsomest Tally-ho coaches that will appear in the La Fiesta Parade is that of the Cham. Of Com., which will follow the president's carriage. Mrs. Howard M. Zale will act as chaperone on that day and the coach will be occupied by prominent young society ladies. They will be gowned alike in white and will carry white parasols, ornamented with yellow ribbons. The C. of C. colors, yellow and white, will also be carried out on the floral decorations of the Tally-ho. The following named young ladies will be there: Misses Virginia Drydew, Dorothy Graff, Bella Coulter, Reba Cole, Mary Ridgeway, Lucy Clark, Bereba Pollard, Edith Whittaker, Theresa Smith, May Chapman and Louise Hill.'".
