Description
Photograph of the Main Street in Mokelumne City, ca.1930. The paved street is lined with dirt and extends from the foreground to where it turns to the left at the street at center. Just at the bend a woman stands just outside the Peek-Inn Hotel where three automobiles are parked. The many doors of the rooms of the hotel can be seen on the second floor of the lightly-colored building while the main entrance is shaded on the floor below. A small lane separates the hotel from an electrical pole that stands outside of several other lightly-colored two-story buildings. A larger brick building stands on the left with trees just to the left and another electrical pole across the street.; Picture file card reads "The Main Street started in 1854. A decline began in 1862 and about everything was abandoned in 1878".
