Description
Photograph of a view of commercial Spring Street, looking south, showing horse-drawn carriages, ca.1881-1888. The dirt lanes of Spring Street run from the left foreground toward the background, lined on both sides by horse-drawn carriages. A trolley car sits in the middle of the road at the center of the image. Two-story brick commercial buildings line each side of the street, separated from the road by sidewalks and rows of utility poles. Many pedestrians are visible on the sidewalks along both sides of the street. Legible signs, from left to right, include: "[?]vne, Grocer, Coffee and Teas", "[S]avings Bank", "Los Angeles Illumination", "Central Market", "Siegel the Hatter & Gent's Furnisher", "Sole Agent, Knox, The Hatter [of] New York", "Los Angeles Rubber Stamp Co", and "London Clothing Co".
