Description

Photograph of people under umbrellas on Venice Beach, [s.d.]. The wide, sandy beach runs from the foreground at right towards the background at left. Waves crash on the shore where the ocean meets the beach in the background at right. Hundreds of people in bathing suits can be seen sitting on the sand, many under the shade of large beach umbrellas. In the background at left, several large beach club buildings are visible. Two piers, including one with a roller coaster on it, can be seen in the distance at center.

Title California Historical Society Collection, 1860-1960

Description The California Historical Society Collection is incomparable for the documentary picture it provides of the growth of Southern California, particularly the development of the Los Angeles region, between 1860 and 1960. The collection contains more than 25,000 photographs. The full archive was placed on long-term deposit at USC in 1990 and includes the Title Insurance and Trust Company Collection, also known as TICOR, and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection.
