Description
Photograph of men posing with the main gun turret of the U.S.S. Missouri, 1908. At center, a sailor and a civilian sit atop a hatch in front of the main gun turret of the ship. The sailor is seen wearing darkly-colored pants and a long-sleeved shirt with a folding collar. He also wears a small white sailor's hat on his head. The civilian wears a formal suit and tie, and he wears a brimmed hat. The two men sit atop a rectangular hatch. Near their feet on both sides of the hatch, large anchor chains can be seen. Behind the men in the background, the two guns of the turret point forward towards the bow. One of the cannons has been capped, and a small star is seen on the cover. To the left of the turret, two other sailors are seen conversing. Above the turret, large framed letters spell: "Missouri". Above these letters, a men wearing captain's apparel sits behind a small steering device with several wheels to his right. In the far background, several other men can be seen behind rails on various parts of the ship.
