Description
Photograph of a view of houses on the Monserratte rancho, ca.1875. Two dilapidated adobes are pictured, one to the left, the other to the right. The smaller of the two houses stands to the left, its foundation apparently sinking, as the house appears to be tilted towards the viewer. The second house appears to be configured in an "L" formation, the joint of the two sections pointing to the left. Behind the longer section, a palm tree is visible to the right. The plaster has crumbled off of most of the surfaces on the houses, exposing their adobe bricks, while both are missing shingles from their roofs. The house to the left appears to have had the doors and windows removed from their frames. Tall grass fills the foreground, while mountains can be seen in the distance.
