Photograph of a windsock hanging from the right of the end of a metal tower on an unidentified airport, ca.1927. Beneath the tower sits what appears to be a water tank, in front of which is a light-colored structure with a single door. A metal ladder is built into the tower and extends to the top, where a box-like structure surrounds what could be a large lamp. In the background lies a flat piece of land behind a wire fence.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
