Description

Photograph of a store window display of women's clothing, ca.1930. A mannequin on the left stands in a dark robe with lightly-colored ties across the chest which resemble knots. A second mannequin sits in a chair next to her with a long, dark dress with small, lightly-colored buttons on the neck and a short, wooden footstool to the right. A third mannequin stands on the right in a dark t-shirt and pants with a lightly-colored neckerchief and hat. The interior of the store can be seen through the glass behind them and street lights reflect in the glass in the foreground. A poster standing between the mannequins depicts people swimming in a pool to advertise for Palm Springs.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
