Description

Photograph of mounds in the desert, Nevada, [s.d]. In the foreground, a vegetated ground covers the area and further to the back a small well is visible while water seems to be flowing out of it. Two mounds, with patches of vegetation, are visible behind the well. Mountains are observable in the background. Photoprint reads: "Mounds built by the upward push of artesian wells. `Wild' well in foreground. Nevada".

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
