Description
Photograph of factory workers operating on machinery, showing pallet of buckets in foreground, ca.1930. To the left, a single factory worker is seen operating a large piece of machinery. The worker wears stained pants connected to suspenders. A round, lightly colored cap sits on his head. The worker places a single foot on the round disk at the base of the machine. He also holds a large metal arm extending from the central cylinder of the machine's body. To the man's left, a wheeled cart of small paint buckets can be seen. A small pallet containing more paint buckets is visible to the man's immediate right. To the far right, a large piece of machinery can be seen extending to the ceiling. In the background at center, two additional workers can be seen standing near a rectangular piece of machinery. One man can be seen standing on a barrel adjacent to the machine. To the left and right, large pallets, carts, and boxes are visible.

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
