Description
Photograph of six views of the National Air Races, 1936. Photograph features six distinct images presenting different views of the Los Angeles Air Races. In the upper-left corner, a man is seen seated in a small white aircraft with the number "39" painted on its side. In the background, buildings can be seen. At center-left, a small biplane turns on its side as it passes above the ground. In the background below, various vegetation can be seen. At center, the logo for the National Air Races can be seen. The logo is composed of the heads of three pilots placed atop pictures of wings. At center-right, a close-up view is given of a biplane as it lands. In the bottom-left corner, crowds watch several vehicles move across a field. At center-bottom, crowds of seated spectators turn their heads up to the sky. In the bottom-right corner, a close-up of Roscoe Turner, prize-winning pilot is given with his trophy. The upper-left corner of this image appears to be missing.

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
