Description
Photographic portrait of two astronomers on location at an unidentified observatory, ca.1920-1930. Two men are pictured at center from the waists up, one wearing a hat in the foreground at left. Both men wear darkly-colored overcoats, while the second man -- who is pictured in the right background -- wears no hat and a button-down cardigan sweater underneath his coat. Both men have beards, although the beard belonging to the man at right is more neatly trimmed. The man in the foreground grasps a handrail of some type with his left hand.

Title
Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
