Description
Photograph of German soldiers in a trench during World War I, ca.1914. Four men stand between the narrow walls of a trench, with the man on the front-most left standing cockily, leaning on his right leg. Across him, to the right, another man in a cap leans casually against the trench side. Two other man look on behind them. Half of the right side of the trench is cemented, while the top portion is a wall of soil. The left wall of the trench is composed of layers of soil. Photoprint reads: "captured German photograph".

California Historical Society Collection, 1860-1960
Description
The California Historical Society Collection is incomparable for the documentary picture it provides of the growth of Southern California, particularly the development of the Los Angeles region, between 1860 and 1960. The collection contains more than 25,000 photographs. The full archive was placed on long-term deposit at USC in 1990 and includes the Title Insurance and Trust Company Collection, also known as TICOR, and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection.
