Description
Photograph of inventor Lloyd Giles with the Giles Self-Propelled Projectile, ca.1928. A small biplane can be seen at center, facing towards the foreground at right. It rests on a three-wheeled undercarriage. Giles can be seen with his hands on the wooden propeller at right. The plane is in a large canvas hangar, and an American flag can be seen on a wall at left. The Giles Self Propelled Projectile, could carry 501 lbs. T.N.T. at any altitude and distance up to 400 miles.

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
