Photograph of a view of four dirigibles at the balloon school in Arcadia, ca.1918. The four large airships can be seen lined up across the image. They are floating low to the ground and are tethered down by large ropes. Uniformed soldiers can be seen on the ground beneath the large balloons. In the background, a line of tall trees stretches across the image, while tall mountains can be seen further in the distance.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
