Description

Photograph of an aerial view of the Los Angeles International Airport, ca.1950. The airport sits at center, with car parking lots in front of it, and airplanes in front of the runway that spans it at the back. Around the perimeter of the area are several roads that lead to a residential area in the rightmost foreground and perhaps in the background as well. A large empty field is situated at the bottom left-hand corner, while several large structures sit at the upper-left.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
