Photograph of the Los Angeles International Airport control tower, in May 1961. At center, the tower is 172 feet in height, dominating the entrance to new terminal area near Century and Sepulveda Boulevards. "Office space for airport administration and other executive branches is provided in lower floors of the tower structure and also in the wings on either side. Federal Aviation Agency personnel and radar-electronic equipment will occupy space from the 7th floor up, with air traffic controller staff on 24-hour duty in the control cab" reads the photoprint. In front of the lower part of the building stands a line of flags on tall poles. Two people make their way to the building at center. In the foreground to the left stands a palm tree, with a sprinkling of plant life to its right.; Photoprint reads: "Los Angeles International Airport control tower, 182 feet in height, dominates entrance to new terminal area near Century and Sepulveda Boulevards. Title California Historical Society Collection, 1860-1960

Description The California Historical Society Collection is incomparable for the documentary picture it provides of the growth of Southern California, particularly the development of the Los Angeles region, between 1860 and 1960. The collection contains more than 25,000 photographs. The full archive was placed on long-term deposit at USC in 1990 and includes the Title Insurance and Trust Company Collection, also known as TICOR, and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection.
