Description

Photograph of construction of Boulder Dam, ca.1930. Frame-like structures of intertwining wood and pipes lie at the bottom with the tall, lightly-colored dam striped with ladders standing tall above them. Wires reach from canyon wall to canyon wall in front of the dam as well as over its castle-like type. The tops of cylindrical towers which stand on the opposite side of the dam can be seen over its top on the far left and right.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
