Description
Photograph of S.S. Mauna Kea at the Harbor of Honolulu, [s.d.]. In the center, a large ship can be seen, showing two sterns and a steam pipe. Three auxiliary boats are visible attached to the ship's rail and, to the right, the flag of the United States can be seen at the end of the boat. People can be seen above and below deck. Water covers the foreground and surrounds the ship. A dock area and houses can be seen in the far background.; Photoprint reads: "The Inter-Island Steam Navigation Co., Ltd.'s S.S. 'Mauna Kea'. Type of the fleet of vessels which keep the several Islands of the group in close touch with each other."

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
