Description

Photograph of and inter-island steamer docked at Ahukini Landing, Kauai, Hawaii, [s.d.]. A ship can be seen in the center docked to a platform, positioned to its right, which shows loading machinery and what appear to be tubes; these run from a cabin, located on an elevated ground while supported by long iron poles, down onto the side of the ship. There are auxiliary boats visible to the side of the ship and steam is observable from the chimney. The site is surrounded by water and small cliffs are partially visible in the left background.; Photoprint reads: "Inter-Island steamer working at typical wharf on one of the outside islands".

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
