Description

Photograph of Scandinavian Airlines System airliner in flight, ca.1950. At center, a large lightly-colored aircraft is visible with the words "Scandinavian Airlines System" etched across its side. Twelve windows are seen across the center of the craft, and three national flag symbols are also visible. To the left, the tail of the plan is seen with the symbols "SAS" and descriptive tag "LN-KLB" visible. The same tag is seen extending across the wings of the plane. A black stripe is seen along the bottom of the plane and forms a snake-like head at the captain's cabin. At the right corner in the extreme background, a coastline is visible.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
