Description
Photograph of individual member portraits of Directors of the Los Angeles Public Library: I. B. Dockweiler, J. W. Trueworthy, J. Ross Clark, President; D. W. Edelman, and Lee A. Phillips, 1902. The portraits of three men can be seen next to one another across center, while two other portraits can be seen above and below the center circular portrait. The men at center and to the right have beards and mustaches, while the men at left and at top only have mustaches. The man at bottom is clean-shaven and wears glasses. All of the men are visible wearing tuxes with bowties, except for the man at bottom who wears a tie. The names of each man can be seen below their portraits, while "Directors Public Library" is visible surrounding the portraits across the center.

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
