Description

Photograph of a close-up of the parabolic arches at the Los Angeles International Airport, in November 1961. The arches sweep over a large circular structure at center, and a round area lined with windows sprouts from an unseen base. Around the airport area is a parking lot lined with a wire fence, in which several automobiles park. A group of palm trees sit left of center, and sprinklings of foliage line the building. A tall post with eight street lamp heads on it is situated to the left. The background is neutral.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
