Photograph of the architectural plan for the Santa Barbara Presidio, showing the plaza in 1788, [s.d.]. A square fortification is shown at center, with rooms partitioned at regular intervals along the walls, the plaza labeled at the interior and a scale for measurement shown just beneath. Text at the very bottom of the image reads "This is the plan of the Presidio sent by Cammandant Goycoechea to Governor Fages in 1788".; A key beneath the plan and its title lists the following sections of the presidio: 1) Main entrance, 2) Storehouse, 3) Family Houses, 4) False gate, 5) Church, 6) Sacristy, 7)Alferez' Suite, 8) Commandant's Suite, 9) Family houses, 10) Champlain's suite, 11) Sergeant's house, 12) Guard room and quarters, 13) Alferez' Corrals, Kitchen, 14) Commandant's Corrals, Kitchen, 15) Champlain's Corral, 16) Western bastion, 17) Eastern, and 18) Corrals.

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
