Description
Photograph of a Hopi Indian woman shelling corn from the cob, ca.1900. She wears a print shawl around her shoulders. Her hair is parted in the middle and held in two braids hanging to her chest, one on each side of her head. In each hand she holds a corn cob from which she removes the dried corn kernals with her thumbs. In her lap lays a shallow basket in which lay several cobs and a pile of kernals. Several other cobs lay on the ground in front of her. She is sitting outside near an adobe wall over which is draped a cloth.
