Description

Photograph of a DC-3/C-47 aircraft being assembled at a factory assembly line, ca.1940. Several men stand beneath the wing of an airplane still under construction. A man at center scribbles something onto a a piece of paper on a clipboard, while others appear to confer behind him. The aircraft has several openings for a wing extension, and has several crosses taped over its windows.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
