Description

Photograph of housing construction, ca.1950. The frame of a house sits atop a small hill in the center of the image. The skeleton of the house is complete with a roof and paneling on one portion to the right. A man stands to the left next to a doorway while men are visible inside the house to the right of center. In the foreground, stacks of building supplies can be seen while scraps of what appears to be wood lay all over the slanted land in front of the house.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
