Description
Photograph of a Chemehuevi Indian woman basket maker with a basket on her lap, ca.1900. She is kneeling on the ground holding, with both hands, a small shallow round basket with a pattern woven in. She is wearing a long print dress, a plain dark button-up blouse, and a print kerchief wrapped around her head. She is gazing down at the basket. She is sitting outside in front of a large woven mesquite granary. A dark plaid blanket with tassles sits on top of the granary. Part of a native dwelling (blurred) is visible in the background at right.
