Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the ruins of the Mission San Diego, ca.1880. A square of picket fence stands in the left foreground, behind which a collapsing wall made of adobe bricks can be seen. Beyond that, one of three mission buildings has lost its roof and several of the walls are crumbling. There is no glass in its windows. The two-story building to its left appears to be mostly intact, however, despite the fact that the windows appear to be boarded-up in places. In front of it, further left, the third, smallest adobe building has lost all of its spackle, and is partially obscured by the remaining walls of a fourth in front of it. The ground is dry, and dusty. Picture file card reads: "Watkins photo, copied by Chas. B. Terrill(?)." . "Terrill" likely should be spelled "Turrill", the individual in question likely being Charles Beebe Turrill, a historian and promoter of California who lived from 1854 to 1927.
